Rotary Art Competition

Today, Saturday 14th March, the Mayor of Westhoughton Cllr Gillian Wroe was back at Westhoughton Library to perform a special task:

‘Several months ago I was asked by Ron Bell of the Rotary Club of Westhoughton to present some Art prizes. I was happy to put it into my busy diary because, although I cannot claim to be particularly artistic, I can appreciate artistic talent. The art on display was created by young artists who are Year 3 and Year 5 pupils in Westhoughton Primary Schools.

The theme that Rotary had asked the pupils to create a painting or drawing about was for Year 3 ‘Farm Animals’ and Year 5 ‘Space’.

Everyone there today was impressed by the standard of work on show. I’m completely in awe of how talented these young artists are and, as I said in my introduction, I hope that they carry on producing works of art. Art is good for your soul. Congratulations to all who took part.

Pictured are Ron Bell, Ollie Younge and Christine Walsh of Rotary, the winners of the awards and a display of the pieces of art. Please pop into the library to view them.’
