Winter Wellbeing
A few months ago Westhoughton Town Council gave a grant to ‘The Bereavement Cafe’ to fund a Winter Wellbeing Day. That was held today 3rd December and the Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Gillian Wroe, went along to see what response there had been. She writes:
‘I was delighted to go along to Brookfield Hall, where the Wellbeing Day was being held, to see what was being offered during this National Grief Awareness Week. The event was organised by a group from the Bereavement Cafe led by the inspirational Jane Dixon. The group supports people who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
Today there were various craft activities, small group talks, reiki and food demonstrations. The room was full of people enjoying the peacefulness of sitting in small groups making craft items and chatting or listening to others. One group also went out on a mindfulness walk.
There were professionals around the room who had given their time freely in support of this event. I’m constantly reminded as I visit groups in our community just how many amazing people there are supporting others in times of need. We need to shout it from the rooftops and drown out the negativity!
Thank you to everyone involved today it was a privilege to meet you.
