Youth Council Meeting
Mayor of Westhoughton Councillor Sarita Chohan writes about last Thursdays (18-06-2026) Youth Council meeting :
“It was a mixture of joy and sadness as we welcomed our new Youth Councillors and said goodbye to this year's fantastic team.
To help everyone get to know one another, we enjoyed some fun icebreaker games, and our existing Youth Councillors were brilliant in helping the new members settle in and making the transition a smooth one. We even had a small party, which was enjoyed by all!
The Youth Council is made up of two children from each of our eight primary schools in Westhoughton, giving our young people a real voice in the community.
Our 2025/2026 Youth Councillors have been absolutely outstanding, taking on many projects and discussing important issues such as road safety and promoting acts of kindness, alongside many other initiatives. They should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
A huge thank you to our outgoing Youth Councillors for their dedication, enthusiasm and ideas. We wish them every success for the future.
We are now looking forward to working closely with our new team of Youth Councillors and can't wait to see what they achieve in the year ahead!”
