Remembrance Day Parade
On Sunday 9th November in Westhoughton, there was a Remembrance Sunday Service at St Bartholomew’s Church followed by an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial then a parade around the town centre.
The Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Gillian Wroe writes:
‘On Remembrance Sunday, the community of Westhoughton came together to pay their respects to all those who gave their lives for their country in conflicts around the world.
It was an honour to lay a wreath on behalf of the Town Council and the people of Westhoughton and to see the many organisations represented at the wreath laying. The turnout was truly heartwarming.
Thanks go to all who organised or participated in what is always a moving and emotional occasion. Special thanks go to Rev Carol Pharoah and the officers and bellringers of St Bartholomew’s, the police, the Marshalls, Greenfield Brass Band, The Royal British Legion, the Town Clerk and Deputy Clerk and to Staff Sergeant Lee Hill who led the parade.
After the event I went into a couple of the bars in Market Street and was introduced to several veterans who are doing amazing work with veterans who still suffer from mental health issues. It was a privilege to meet them.’
“When you go home
Tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow
We gave our today”
