100 Years Birthday Celebration for Edwin!

The Mayor and Mayoress of Westhoughton, Cllrs Gillian Wroe and Deirdre McGeown had a very special invitation today, Saturday 27th September. The Mayor writes:

‘As Mayor I get invited to a wide variety of events which are always enjoyable. Today the Mayoress and I were absolutely delighted and honoured to be surprise guests at the birthday party for Mr Edwin Eastham who turned 100 yesterday. It was held at Westhoughton Cricket Club.

What an amazing man! He started work at 14 in the textile mills, retired at 65 and still lives in his own home. We enjoyed Edwin’s company immensely, his mind is really sharp as we chatted about all sorts. When I took my chain off, to remove my jacket, he asked to feel the weight of it and was interested in learning about the symbols on it which represent Westhoughton.

Pictured with us are David and Kevin, Edwin’s two sons. Also the magician who asked Edwin to participate in a card trick.
