VE Day Celebrations

Written by Cllr Gillian Wroe, Mayor of Westhoughton “ I was delighted to attend the afternoon VE Day Celebrations at Washacre Primary Academy as Mayor of Westhoughton. The children were enjoying outdoor activities and old fashioned games in the lovely May sunshine. They were very well behaved and polite and many of them wanted to touch my mayoral chain and ask questions about it.

As a former teacher myself I was impressed by the school facilities (inside and out), the warm welcome I received from the Head Teacher, Mr Howarth, the staff and of course the children. The ethos of the school is to promote cooperation, kindness and personal well being. These were all evident in the way the children behaved towards each other and the adults.

One highlight of the afternoon was having a go at throwing a wet sponge at the Head Teacher. I think that was also a favourite activity for many of the children. What a ‘good sport’!“
