Mayor’s Civic Sunday
Written by Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Gillian Wroe, “Yesterday, on a lovely sunny May Day, we held the Civic Service for my inauguration as Mayor of Westhoughton and Cllr Sarita Chohan as Deputy Mayor. It is an honour and a privilege to be representing the community of Westhoughton for the coming year.
As I approached St. Bartholomew’s Church I could hear the wonderful sound of the bells ringing to welcome everyone to the service.
Attending the service were the Mayors and Mayoresses of Bolton, Blackrod, Horwich and Adlington, my Mayoress Cllr Deirdre McGeown, Deputy Mayor Sarita Chohan and Consort Rishi Chohan, Westhoughton Town Councillors, invited guests and regular members of the church including several children.
The service was conducted by the Rev Carol Pharoah, who gave a thought provoking and inspiring sermon.
Afterwards we went to Lostock Cricket Club, on Chew Moor Lane Westhoughton for the Civic Reception.
I’d like to thank everyone who attended yesterday, Rev Carol Pharoah and the congregation of St Bartholomew’s for holding the service in their stunning church, Ryan Battersby and the Westhoughton Tower Bellringers, Chris and the team at Lostock Cricket Club, David Kaye for inviting me to unveil the new plaques put together by Rob Lucas, and our Town Clerk and Deputy, Pauline and Lindsay, for putting so much into the organisation of the day.
It felt like a fitting start to my mayoral year and I’m looking forward visiting groups and organisations in Westhoughton and meeting many more of our amazing residents who do so much to make our community a great place to live.”
