VJ Service at War Memorial

On Friday 15th August at the War Memorial in Westhoughton, Westhoughton Town Mayor Cllr Gillian Wroe and Mayoress Cllr Deirdre McGeown attended a short service of remembrance. The Mayor writes:

β€˜It was an honour to lay a wreath on behalf of Westhoughton Town Council and the people of Westhoughton on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.

A poignant service led by Pastor Glen Atkinson was attended by 47 members of the public, representatives of the Royal British Legion, RAFA and the Rotary Club. It was touching to think that similar services would be happening all across the country at the same time.

Mark, the bugler, sounded the Last Post followed by a minute silence, the Reveille, then the wreath laying.

Veteran Cllr Neil Maher laid a wreath on behalf of Westhoughton Royal British Legion and veteran Mr Ollie Younge, President of the Rotary Club of Westhoughton laid one for the Rotary Club.

Thank you to everyone who took part or attended.
