Blooming Brighter

How school pupils are reviving Market Street!

Today was the official launch of the Town Council’s ‘Planter Project’.

Four schools, The Gates Primary School, St Bartholomew’s C of E Primary School, St Thomas C of E Primary School and St George’s C of E Primary School along with 20th Bolton Scouts, will be working with Westhoughton Town Council to maintain the flower planters in Market Street.

The Subcommittee, chaired by Mr S Doherty Headteacher at The Gates Primary School, has been meeting since January and it is hoped that the schools will grow and plant the summer plants for the next season (Summer 2026).

In the meantime, each school and the Scout group, will be maintaining the planters. Westhoughton Town Council continues to invest in this project and will pay Bolton Council to water the flowers through the season.

The photo’s show the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Sarita Chohan, along with Councillors Wilkinson and Tighe and representatives from the four schools participating and Scout Leader Michelle Newsham.
