Civic Awards & Thank You Event
Last night Westhoughton Town Council held the ‘Civic Awards and Thank You Event’ at Westhoughton Lions Club.
It was an event for to present certificates and awards to the nominees and winners of the four categories of the ‘Civic Awards’ as nominated by members of the public in Westhoughton.
The nominations were then considered by the councillors and the winners chosen in each category. As the Mayor, Cllr Gillian Wroe, commented “It’s not easy choosing a winner because there are so many wonderful deserving people in our town, so be proud if you’ve been nominated”.
The Mayor also thanked the volunteers who have helped at the community events organised by the Council throughout the year. She said “These can only be successful when volunteers come forward to assist us so you are very much appreciated.”
The worthy winners of the awards were:
Environmental (adult) - Martin Eckersley and Vicky Kendal for the Daisy Hill Community Garden
Environmental (youth) - The Gates Primary School pupils for the ‘Green Fest Project’ and the planned community garden
Young Citizen - Sonny Howells for raising £500 towards the community library bus project at The Gates School
Citizen - Po-Ling Chan for her work in promoting integration and unity with the Hong Kong residents in our community
Civic Award and Harold Daniels Memorial Trophy - Lesley Monks for her ongoing dedication to the community through her work with Westhoughton Assist Service five days a week since 2020.
Thank you to all who attended especially the children who were amazing, to Mr Phil Brickell MP and his wife Emma for taking the time out of their busy schedule, to the Town Clerk Sarah Holliday and Deputy Clerk Lindsay Pollard for working hard to make the event a success, to Marcus Pollard for compèring, to entertainer Jack Scott-Walker and to the staff at Westhoughton Lions Club.
