Civic Sunday Service

Councillor Sarita Councillor writes a reflection of today's Mayoral Civic service and ceremony:

“What a truly wonderful and blessed day for Westhoughton.

Today, a beautiful Mayoral Service was held at St Bartholomew's Church for the inauguration of myself, Councillor Sarita Chohan, as Town Mayor of Westhoughton, alongside Councillor Linda Maher as Town Deputy Mayor of Westhoughton.

The meaningful service was carried out by Reverend Malcolm Wearing, and it was made even more special when my father-in-law, Mr Ratilal Chohan, delivered a short Hindu prayer which brought a touching and auspicious blessing to the ceremony, beautifully reflecting diversity, unity, and inclusion within our community.

We were honoured by the attendance and support shown by members of the Westhoughton community, friends, family, members of our Westhoughton Royal British Legion, fellow Town Councillors, and distinguished guests including the Mayor of Bolton Councillor David Chadwick and Mayoress Mrs Val Chadwick, the Mayor of Adlington Councillor Alison Rothwell and her consort Mr Ron Rothwell, and our MP Mr Phil Brickell.

Following the service, we gathered at Lostock Cricket Club for a lovely civic celebration together.

This has been a truly honoured and memorable civic occasion as I formally accept my new role as your Town Mayor. I look forward to serving the people of Westhoughton with pride, dedication, compassion, and community spirit throughout my mayoral year.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made today so special. “
