VJ Day - Evening Service at Bolton Parish Church

On the evening of VJ Day, Friday 15th August, Westhoughton Town Mayor Cllr Gillian Wroe writes:

‘Tonight it was an honour to represent Westhoughton at the VJ Day 80th Anniversary Civic Service and Beacon Lighting, held at Bolton Parish Church.

The service, led by Rev Hannah Lane, was well attended with members of the Royal British Legion, including our own Westhoughton branch, taking part.

The lessons were read by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr David Chadwick and the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Mrs Diane Hawkins JP.

It was a pleasure to be seated with the Deputy Mayor of Horwich Cllr Kevin McKeon.

After the service we were entertained by the excellent Hoover Band before being piped outside for the lighting of the beacon on top of the tower.

It was a fitting end to an emotional and historic day.
