Reading with The Gates

This week the Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Gillian Wroe, returned to The Gates Primary School to continue reading to each class. She writes:

‘I thoroughly enjoyed my reading sessions at The Gates. The children were so attentive and well behaved, asking and answering lots of thoughtful questions about the books and about my role as mayor.

Most of the stories I read were chapters of the class book that they are currently reading although the first one was a story book that I’d not read before.

Yr 2 - ‘The Detective Dog’ by Julia Donaldson

Yr5/6 - ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl

Yr3/4 - ‘James and The Giant Peach’ by Roald Dahl

Yr3/4 - ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ by JK Rowling

Yr5/6 - ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ (a different chapter!)

Yr4/5 - ‘Frankenstiltskin’ by Joseph Coelho

Thank you once again to the Head Mr Doherty, the staff, the lovely girls who escorted me around school and most of all to the children who made me feel so welcome. The children are a credit to their families and their school.’
