Green Fest at The Gates Primary School

It was an honour to attend the Green Fest at The Gates Primary School today. Despite the weather, the mood was truly uplifted by the enthusiasm, creativity and happiness of the children, who proudly showcased a variety of inspiring sustainability projects.

The children created wonderful artwork by recycling plastic bags and bottle tops, whilst also encouraging environmental initiatives such as bulb planting and tree growing. One of the lovely projects involved children nurturing plants from seeds into beautiful flowering plants, which they were proudly selling today.

Another fantastic initiative saw a group of children develop their own sustainable business concept, sourcing natural and eco-friendly products to sell including washing up liquid, shampoo, bubble bath and more. What wonderful entrepreneurs of the future they are — combining creativity, business skills and sustainability so brilliantly.

We also had the opportunity to visit the innovative library bus within the school grounds. It was such an engaging and welcoming space that would inspire both children and adults alike to pick up a book and read.

There was so much to see and do throughout the event. My Consort Rishi and I were incredibly grateful to have been invited by Headteacher Mr Doherty, and a special thank you to the wonderful pupils Bea, Florence and Leah who kindly guided us around the festival.
