Bolton’s Civic Service

On Sunday 18th May, the Mayor of Westhoughton, Councillor Gillian Wroe, attended the Civic Service in Bolton. She writes…

‘It was an honour and a privilege to represent the community of Westhoughton as Town Mayor at the Civic Service for the new Mayor of Bolton.

It was all the more special as the new Mayor of Bolton is Cllr David Chadwick, who is a Westhoughton Town Councillor as well as a Bolton Councillor.

We followed the procession from Bolton Town Hall to the Parish Church behind the assembled bands, the Westhoughton Branch of the Royal British Legion, cadets, Council officials, leaders and members of Bolton Council, Town Mayors and many others.

Inside the spectacular and packed Bolton Parish Church the service included a number of Westhoughton residents taking centre stage:
The Rev Hannah Lane, Vicar and Borough Dean of Bolton, a true ‘Howfener’, who led the service; our Westhoughton Town Clerk, Pauline Rowley, newly appointed as the Bolton Mayor’s Chaplain led the prayers; the children from Eatock Primary School beautifully sang Gary Barlow’s song ‘Sing’ and ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman; and the Westhoughton Branch of the Royal British Legion formed part of the guard of honour and acted as Standard Bearers.

Also attending today were the Lady Mayors of Blackrod and Horwich and their consorts.

I would like to wish our new Mayor and Mayoress a happy and healthy year in their new roles.’
