Charity Donations
Written by Cllr Neil Maher, Mayor of Westhoughton "Today I have rounded off my year as Westhoughton Town Mayor, by handing a cheque to each of my chosen charities for £1,440 each (£4,320 in total). My chosen charities are:
Senior Solution – is a local charity in Westhoughton providing regular social events for older residents of the town. The growing number of attendees gain personal benefits from social interaction and through health and wellbeing activities.
Westhoughton Assist –working hard to respond to food poverty and disadvantage in Westhoughton through their community food shop.
They have been supporting households facing financial issues to access affordable food supplies, help and advice since 2020. In 2021, they opened a Community Shop in Westhoughton to help local people avoid food poverty and stay well.
The Darren Deady Foundation –The foundation was created in the memory of Kingsman Deady who lost his life whilst serving in Afghanistan. It provides invaluable support to local veterans who have fallen on harder times, by providing temporary accommodation, meals and a variety of support channels.
We in Westhoughton are blessed to have a wide variety of charitable and community groups staffed by some wonderful people providing services that are needed and greatly appreciated.
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support throughout my year, you have helped make it a most enjoyable and productive experience."
