Party in the Park!

Mayor of Westhoughton Councillor Sarita Chohan writes:

“What a truly wonderful day celebrating the return of the Howfen Wakes!

It was an absolute privilege to officially open this fantastic community event alongside special guest Joe-Warren Plant from Emmerdale.

A huge thank you to Hazel Bumby and every single member of the organising team who have worked tirelessly over many months to bring the Howfen Wakes back to life. Reviving such an important part of Westhoughton's history has taken an incredible amount of dedication, determination and hard work. Today was a wonderful reflection of everything they have achieved, and I sincerely hope this is the first of many successful Howfen Wakes for years to come.

My consort, Rishi, and I had a truly lovely day meeting so many wonderful people, chatting with the stallholders and enjoying the fantastic atmosphere that filled the event from start to finish.

There really was something for everyone – a fabulous dog show, amazing dance performances, live music, singing, a choir, delicious souvlaki, freshly made pizza, beautiful cakes, Tropic products, and so much more!

It was also wonderful to see my two Mayoral Charities, The The Darren Deady Foundation and Westhoughton Assist Service , raising awareness of the incredible work they do while also fundraising to support our local community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported the event and helped make it such a memorable day. Community events like these remind us just how special Westhoughton is.
