Mayor of Chorley’s At Home Event
Last week the Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Gillian Wroe, was invited to attend the Mayor of Chorley’s ‘At Home’ event. She writes:
‘During my year as Mayor it has been a pleasure to meet the Mayor and Mayoress of Chorley, Cllr Alistair and Mrs Jane Morwood, on several occasions. So I was delighted to attend, with my husband, an event to mark the end of Cllr Morwood’s term of office.
The event was the planting of an oak tree in Astley Park, which was bequeathed to the people of Chorley by Reginald Tatton in memory of those of died in the First World War.
After the tree planting we enjoyed a sandwich and cake in the park’s cafe building followed by a guided tour of Astley Hall’s walled garden. The Grade 1 listed historic house is closed for renovation but we were able to admire the architecture on the outside.
All the guests were presented with an acorn pin badge as a memento of the day.
Thank you to the Mayor and Mayoress, the Chorley staff and fellow Mayors and consorts for a memorable visit to Chorley.’
