World Book Day

Today The Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Gillian Wroe, was invited back to Washacre Primary Academy to look at their newly refurbished Reception classroom……

‘It was a genuine pleasure to spend some time with the lovely children in Reception Class this morning. Since I retired from teaching as an Early Years teacher I’ve missed reading stories and working with young children.

So today I felt very much at home especially as I was made to feel very welcome by the staff and pupils.

On World Book Day it was appropriate that I should read ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, one of my favourite books which the children responded to enthusiastically with actions and responses.

My ‘Mayor’s Bear’ enjoyed it too!

Thank you everyone for making my visit so enjoyable at your wonderful school.’
