VE Day Art Competition
Written by Cllr Gillian Wroe, Mayor of Westhoughton “It was an absolute pleasure as Mayor of Westhoughton to present a prize to a winner of the 80th VE DAY Art Competition run by Westhoughton Town Council and The Westhoughton Branch of the Royal British Legion. The Chair, Marcus Pollard, and I had a hard job choosing the winners. All the entries by our young artists impressed us immensely.
Today’s presentation was to Jakub from The Gates School, pictured with his proud parents, at the school’s Celebration Assembly. His drawing of local soldier Jim Sharrock captured our hearts. I think his family would be proud to know he is still remembered and is included in the History unit of the curriculum.
I was also pleased to mention all the other entries and say what it was that we loved about their work of art.
Also pictured is the Head Teacher of The Gates School Mr Sean Doherty and Mayoress of Westhoughton Cllr Deirdre McGeown.”
Cllr Wroe will be presenting the other winners in the near future with their prizes.
