New Mayor at Adlington

On Sunday the Mayor of Westhoughton attended the Civic Service in Adlington. Councillor Gillian Wroe writes…

On Sunday, I attended the Adlington Civic Service and Reception as Mayor of Westhoughton with Mayoress Cllr Deirdre McGeown. The Mayor of Adlington, Cllr Stuart Clewlow, held his service in the town’s stunning St Paul’s Church.

The church tower is unusual in that it was built as a war memorial with contributions from the community. In desperate need of restoration the Mayor has chosen it as his charity for the year, the ‘trinity’ of repairs to the tower, bells and clock face being appropriate he remarked.

I felt privileged to be allowed into the bell tower with the Mayors of Adlington, Chorley Cllr Alistair Morwood, Horwich Cllr Victoria Rigby and the Speaker of the House of Commons and MP Sir Lindsay Hoyle.’
