Last year Westhoughton Town Council gave a grant of £500 to The Gates Primary School towards an ambitious project. This was to convert an old bus into a community library. Today the Mayor of Westhoughton, accompanied by the Mayoress, went to officially open the finished library. Cllr Wroe reports:

‘Another sunny day and Cllr Deirdre McGeown and I were excited to be going to view this wonderful project. An enormous amount of hard work, described by the Head Mr Sean Doherty, went into the project.

He praised the various businesses and groups who have contributed to the project including Tesco who were there to present a cheque.

I spoke about my own love of reading and encouraged the pupils to “Keep reading!”.

Once inside the bus the reading monitors showed us the fantastic resources, all beautifully arranged and displayed.

I donated some books which I’d bought from a charity shop and was pleased to hear that the school are doing the same. Recycling at its best!’
